The Listening Post
“A place for unhurried conversations, to be accepted and heard; to clarify thinking, consider options, to express human hurt, to be affirmed, to express joys!”
Find us around Maucker Union on Thursdays during the Fall and Spring terms from 11:30am-1:30pm!
WHAT is the Listening Post?
The Listening Post Project is a low stakes, brave space, to talk and be heard. It was started in the early 1980s in Denver, CO and can be found on over 150 Other campuses.

Our Listening Post Project grew out of conversations that began in 2021 at the height of COVID, as we were discussing ways to share our way of love and radical hospitality with campus. What would that look like? What was needed to make that happen?
WHY the Listening Post?
We recognize that the needs of campus have been changing, and have drastically changed since COVID. Students are re-learning how to be in community, and what it means to care for others and themselves.
Our Goals
-
Create space for students to be seen and heard
-
Be a consistent and reliable weekly presence on campus
-
Provide resources intended to help meet student needs
-
Equip volunteer listeners with the skills and resources needed to support students
-
Point of entry for creating/expressing community
-
Be a safe and brave place for pastoral listening
-
We are here to listen, not provide counseling
-
We are not referring, or offering solution-focused listening
-
We come from a place of pastoral care and listening
-
